Does anybody think that De Geas decision to sign a new contract could depend on what happens with Herrera, Di Maria and Mata? If so I'd be more than slightly worried.

Not really he came to the side without any of them here so I don't see why he'd leave just because any of them were to leave. The rhetoric about him signing a new deal has been more positive in recent weeks, hopefully we get it done sooner rather than later, getting him to sign a new contract will please me almost as much as finishing in the top 4.

I think it will depend on the deal we present him and possibility of getting into CL football imo

Yeah, I imagine if we failed to qualify for the Champions League again he'd more than likely be off and I wouldn't blame him to be fair.

2 confronting stories: David de Gea closes in on new long-term Manchester United deal as Carlo Ancelotti cools his interest in Spanish keeper Real Madrid have been monitoring David de Gea's progress De Gea has less than 18 months left on his Old Trafford contract United have made clear their intention to sign him to an improved contract Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti has informed intermediaries he is happy with Iker Casillas and Keylor Navas The news comes as a huge boost to United's hopes of extending the 24-year-old's contract Manchester United legend Peter Schmeichel calls on club to tie up De Gea on a long-term deal David de Gea is closing in on a new long-term Manchester United contract after Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti made clear he is happy with his goalkeeping options. Real have been closely monitoring De Gea's progress at Old Trafford, his outstanding displays for Louis van Gaal's side alerting the Spanish giants. United have made clear their intention to sign the keeper to an improved contract, but Madrid's interest had created a potentially alarming stumbling block towards fresh terms. However, Ancelotti has informed intermediaries he is happy with Iker Casillas and Keylor Navas and that a move for De Gea is now not a priority for Real. The news comes as a huge boost to United's hopes of extending the 24-year-old's contract, which currently expires at the end of next season. Manchester United legend Peter Schmeichel says a new contract for De Gea would send an important message as the Old Trafford club look to get back to the top. Schmeichel, who won five Premier League titles, three FA Cups and one Champions League title with United, says the club must tie the stopper down to show their rivals at home and abroad that they mean business after a difficult 18 months following Sir Alex Ferguson's retirement. 'It's very important the club's best players sign new contracts to send a signal,' Schmeichel told Sky Sports. 'It shows that they believe in the Manchester United project and believe the club will go back not only to the top of the Premier League but also European football.' www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-2967483/David-Gea-closes-new-long-term-Manchester-United-deal-Carlo-Ancelotti-cools-Spanish-keeper.htmlSpanish Man United star hasn't spoken to LVG for months, wants exit Spanish newspaper AS really go off the deep end on Wednesday with regards to the future of Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea. Whilst reports in the British and other Spanish media have more recently edged toward the idea of De Gea renewing, AS reckon he doesn't want to. Jorge Mendes was at Manchester City's match against Barcelona on Tuesday night and him being in town, coupled with his recent comments about De Gea likely staying where he is, made a renewal look imminent. However, that's not what AS think. They say the relationship between De Gea and Louis van Gaal has completely broken down and it's even claimed the pair haven't spoken to each other properly for months. AS point out Van Gaal's comments not so long ago when he tried to dampen the praise De Gea was getting from the British media, with the Dutchman saying it was a goalkeeper's job to save shots so De Gea's performances weren't so revolutionary. That has been picked up repeatedly by the Spanish press as a reason that De Gea is unhappy. Real Madrid are again mentioned as an option for De Gea, and Mendes is apparently in contact with the Spanish club about the prospect. Whatever happens, decisions need to be made relatively soon, Manchester United don't want to go through the summer worried about De Gea and a contract ending less than a year later. sportwitness.ning.com/forum/topics/spanish-man-united-star-hasn-t-spoken-to-lvg-for-months-wants-exi

He's most likely keeping his options open, waiting to see if we make CL football and if we do, he'll probably sign the renewal during the summer. Hopefully anyway.
