The comments on Basti's display are very telling, he was poor tonight. Having said that it was tough for him, he is not a shielding, holding midfielder. I still expect better from him though.
Overall comments about Basti are a little harsh in my view though, there's been some games where I've thought he's completely bossed it and controlled the rhythm of the game effortlessly. This may be a sign that he needs to be used a little more sparingly though. When Herrera and Schneiderlin are back I'd still like to see them as a midfield 2.

haha love this bit at the end when asked about progress
"When you see the facts, we were further in the Capital One Cup, we qualified for the Champions League group" "The facts are saying that we are better than last year, so that’s my answer because I can only give facts"
Using his analogy it would take till the 18/19 season for us to get to a league cup final . I'd understand the champions league logic if we had gotten a group like Barca, Shakthar and Monchengladbac or something like that but we didn't
Think he's applying the concept of progress a little bit too literally and that's what could hold us back when it matters most

LVG has had a few nibbles at him now, I just think he's trying to rev him up.
Schweinsteiger has been disappointing though, it didn't help tonight that Fellaini was alongside him but he keeps making life difficult for himself and the team, holding onto the ball far too long, going sideways and putting us under pressure when there's no need. He was incredibly sloppy and looked lost at times today against a team you'd think he'd know well, I mean Draxler glided past him with pure ease.
The likelihood is that his ban will stand which might be good for him but obviously not for us short term anyway. The sooner Schneiderlin and Herrera are back the better on the defensive and attacking front.

absolute disgrace of a team. i'm sorry but LVG out at the end of the season, i mean sure their are crap players also but thats also down to him, he's had enough time now, failing to get past the group is unacceptable
I've said it before and i'll say it again, as good as LVG has been for us in terms of rebuilding us to a good level, we're never going to go further with him at the helm, he hasn't been more than a 2-3 year manager for a while now (see Bayern), we need to go out and get a manager who will take us to the next level whilst we get even better players, i think the man for that job has to be Pep Guardiola. If not, Carlo Ancelotti also could do the job also.

Basti was shit, Depay has been for pretty much every game a complete and utter waste (his dribbling and holding the ball and slowing down play so he can try do some tricky dribbles acting like he's ronaldo is beyond annoying)
one positive is that we actually managed to score 2 goals (even if one was an own goal, we'll ignore that though  )

Disappointing to see us getting knocked out of CL but I actually thought we played well and it just wasn't our day. We deserved something from that game.
It was an interesting game to watch, really encouraging signs. Just worried about the injuries, now Darmian joins the list.

Yeah there's been an overreaction as I expected. People calling last night's performance an embarrassment is really pissing me off. Again, the campaign has been poor, leaving it down to having to win away to Wolfsburg in your last game was the issue, not losing to Wolfsburg and actually playing well, despite finishing the game with half an u21 side out there.
LVG is trying to defend himself best he can by talking about progress, in literal terms we are making progress. He knows we haven't been good enough in Europe, which has been incredibly surprising because I thought the way we play would be far more suited to European football than the premier league.
I do think we've been unlucky at the same time though, losing Shaw in that first game definitely had an impact on the night and thereafter we've missed him hugely imo. Then last night with so many injuries that kept piling up as the evening went on. I still think with just Schneiderlin fit we'd have won the game. Not trying to make excuses though because the home game vs PSV was unforgivable, complete lack of intensity. If we'd have played that night the same we did last night we'd have put 3 or 4 past PSV and guaranteed qualification.

we defended really badly though, all 3 goals where a result of shite defending
this was worse than the psv game (away fixture) in all honesty. yeah we at least had more imagination going forward, but that means nothing if you forget all defensive discipline which we actually had in almost every other game.
and lets face it, we should be beating Wolfsburg, they're a good side, but they're not manchester united, especially a united team that has spent a ton of money supposedly improving the bloody team to compete in the CL

Naive defending is what caused it. Which was to be expected with Varela starting his first ever game for us. He was great going forward and superb in the tackle and in one-on-ones but he was caught out of position a couple of times. That will improve with experience. The biggest cause of our defensive frailties last night was Schneiderlin being out imo. Then again, it was poor of us to allow Naldo a free volley in the area from a set piece.
In the circumstances the team performed well and played with the heart and desire we've wanted to see all season. If we continue to show the spirit and above all the intensity in our attacking play that we did last night we'll go very close to the title.
I really can't be critical of how we performed at all last night, even with conceding 3 goals. The criticism comes for the whole campaign and leaving ourselves in such a tough position in the first place. Starting to sound like a broken record now I know but I feel the criticism aimed at the players and the manager for last night's performance is unfair.

What I find most worrying after the time and money spent is we still can't attack and defend as a team. Surely we should be fluid now and even if we do have injuries it's basics we're talking about. Yes we're still a couple of forwards short but that cannot be used as an excuse.

Well what did I say. It makes me sad to expect United to lose can we even beat Bournemouth ? Not using the current tactics. So Sad !!! You pretty much said we'd set up defensively and fail to create anything. You were wrong, we attacked, scored 2 goals, had 1 disallowed and could've scored a few more. You say we don't attack, then we do attack and you claim we can't beat people with these tactics, makes no sense whatsoever. Did you watch last night's game? I also find your overly pessimistic question about whether we can even beat the mighty Bournemouth beyond ridiculous.
