That was going to be my point... the FBI has very limited jurisdiction outside of the US. I can't imagine any of the threats being legitimate, but who knows. If so, she'll need more than the FBI to protect her. Obviously FIFA are bent as fuck, but I doubt their misdemeanors go any further than corruption. The Qataris though, who knows how deep they're going to cover up. They certainly don't seem that arsed by the number of people dying in the desert trying to build their stadiums.

What's the stereotype? That people from Wigan are racists? Yep, he was even on TV saying he'd read through everything Mackay was supposed to have said and he couldn't see much wrong. We all say silly things like that according to the daft old twat. I see where he's coming from - who doesn't look at a list of football and the first thing that comes to mind is, "not many white faces?"

Yeah, they'd be the ones to watch out for, but I'm still not sure they would actually do anything. It seems their World Cup is going to proceed as planned, so I don't know why they would care.

All kicking off with Wigan now, Dave Whelan says all Englishmen call Chinese people Chinks and there's nothing wrong with it, also says Jews chase money more than anyone else.
Don't think the guy's a racist, but he's a typical old English bloke who takes no notice of political correctness and is just incredibly old fashioned.
Embarassing for him, the club and the town.

FFS, we all do it in our own ways, I can laugh at a "Paddy Irishman joke" if it's funny? This PC crowd are taking things too far. A sense of humour is a precious thing, not to be wasted in my book.

I've never heard someone use the word Chink to describe a Chinese person unless they mean to offend. Nothing Mackay said was remotely funny and was full of prejudice and racial stereotyping.
The moment he hired Mackay, Whelan downplayed everything that was said in those texts or emails or whatever they were, his argument is that basically everyone's a bit a racist. Has nothing to do with political correctness gone mad (which is now one of the most annoying terms going), it's about not being a moron and using a bit of common sense to work out what you are allowed to say and what you aren't.

Looks like the story is gathering pace. Maybe if he didn't downplay his racist comments, it wouldn't have been that big of a deal. But going for "everybody does it" sounds like a pre-school excuse to me.

Wigan owner Dave Whelan has apologised for comments he made in The Guardian which have been attacked as anti-Semitic.
The controversy has erupted following Whelan’s decision to appoint Malky Mackay as Wigan manager, despite the fact Mackay’s conduct during his time at Cardiff is the subject of an ongoing FA investigation.
The investigation concerns allegedly offensive text messages sent by Mackay, one of which referred to Jewish football agent Phil Smith and appeared to imply that a Jewish person would be more perturbed at losing money than non-Jews.
Whelan attempted to play down the remarks to The Guardian, saying: “I think Jewish people do chase money more than everybody else. I don't think that's offensive at all.”
However, his comments were strongly criticised by the Jewish Leadership Council and he has now issued an apology.
Asked about The Guardian interview by Sky Sports, Whelan said: “I have not read what it said but I have been told what it said.
“Number one, I would never, ever insult a Jewish person. I have got hundreds and hundreds of Jewish friends. I would never, ever upset any Jewish person, because I hold them in the highest regard.
“If anybody takes offence at anything I have said, please accept my sincere apology. It is either a misquote or, on that day, I must have done 50 interviews.
“You can imagine how many times I have been on radio, television etc because of this case.
“I did not mean to insult any single person but please accept my sincere apology if they feel that way. It was not intended.”
Whelan was also remorseful about comments he made in the same Guardian interview which suggested that another term used by Mackay, which is generally considered offensive by Chinese people, was “nothing bad”.
Whelan said: “The Chinese community, again, I have got loads of Chinese friends. I would never, ever insult the Chinese. I know Malky Mackay insulted them.
“He apologised to them and I hope they accept that. I apologise to them on my behalf and on behalf of the club. We do not ever want to insult any nation or any person in the world.”
The anti-racism group Kick It Out think Whelan’s remarks in The Guardian place his position in doubt.
The group released a statement which read: “He has brought into question whether he is a fit and proper person who should be running a professional football club.
“These comments must not go unchallenged and have to be investigated by the FA.”
Whelan responded: “I take those comments, actually, with a pinch of salt. If they think I am not a fit and proper person to run a football club, I would strongly object to that.
“I played football for 15 years, in all four divisions, I have played on probably every ground in England.
“I have had massive experience in football. I have brought Wigan Athletic from the fourth division to the Premier League, and two years ago we won the FA Cup.
“So I cannot accept that people think I would insult them, insult football in any way, shape or form. I love football passionately and I love Wigan Athletic passionately.
“I fight to get Wigan to do well. Our reputation, I don’t want it tarnished. We are a very happy, honest club.”

He's really not helping himself any... doesn't Wigan have a PR team to handle this sort of thing.

Don't think the guy's a racist, but he's a typical old English bloke who takes no notice of political correctness and is just incredibly old fashioned. Describes a vast majority of people I know above a certain age. It frustrates me but I don't think it's anything that's going to change soon, it's an ignorance that will slowly die away through different generations. From my perspective, I'd be lying if I said I've never used the word "chink," it was just a term that I regularly heard Chinese people referred to as when I was little, so I can see where Whelan is coming from in that respect. But with anything like that, it's just a case of learning what's right and wrong as you grow up and mature, some people don't want to learn.

That's it, you just have to put up with it with people over a certain age as they're so old and stubborn they're never going to change and in Whelan's case I genuinely think he sees nothing wrong with what he's saying, which is sad but true. I don't think he's malicious, just a behind the times old man. My biggest issue with what's gone on with Whelan is the fact the club thought it was sensible a 77 year old bloke to go on tv speaking about the issue, it's just been incredibly embarrassing for the club.
People over and under a certain age have absolute no excuses though, there's no defending anything Mackay said.

And the logical following... Vincent Tan accuses Dave Whelan and Malky Mackay of being racist www.bbc.com/sport/0/football/30147475I understand that older people are slightly racist (maybe unintentionally) but surely when you're a public figure these things could be avoided. What they could have done is to just apologize for all previous comments, and turn the whole conversation to football, but instead they go on to explain themselves and make it even worse. Amusing though

Was only a matter of time before Tan got involved.
