That's life. De Gea is one of the best keepers in the world and I wouldn't swap him for anyone. But the fact is if he wants to go to Madrid there's not a great deal we can do in the long run, besides wish him well and try to make the best of a bad situation.
Nearly any keeper we bring in will be a downgrade on De Gea, what we have to do is make sure that the difference in quality is minimal. Cech would be a fantastic choice as the only thing he's behind De Gea on is longevity.

Lloris ain't that bad, (older, but slightly better, and at 28, he has 10 years in him at least) .
is Leno on his level, not really (though not a bad replacement)
De Gea though was supposed to be our keeper for 15 years +
and now real madrid come waltzing in and buying them cause they got a rich owner and the spanish government to wipe off all their debts. just a bit annoying

and Cech is a short term solution, i like him but he's what, 33. he has 3-4 good years in him. i guess thats enough time to see if any world class or potential world class keepers come in but a more permanent solution would be better
I wouldn't be against selling Valdes, buying Cech and Leno as #1 and #2 (Cech as the starter now, then Leno grows into the position)
Is their any british keepers who are potentially world class that are coming up? (just because someone needs to get a keeper to displace Joe Hart as the national team keeper)

Lloris better than De Gea? Are you for real?

Lloris better than De Gea? Are you for real? ok, he ain't. i'm trying to make it sound a bit better, but we're in a shit situation in terms of de gea. in terms of young keepers who could be an upgrade on de gea, there are none (well, there is one, but chelsea ain't selling him, not even for another 10)

If DDG were to leave, Cech would be a more than adequate replacement for him. Hopefully he wouldn't cost too much, like around £15 million, and that will certainly be a significantly lower amount of money than what Real would likely offer us.
BTW Spens, remember a certain Edwin Van Der Sar? We signed him when he was 34 going on 35. At the time it also seemed to be a mere short-term solution, but signing him turned out all right, didn't it.....

Jesus, he's the standard that represents a good young keeper?
It's very rare that you see keepers flapping at shots, let alone crosses. Beaten on his near-post twice as well if I remember right, caught out of position at least twice in the away game as well.
Stay well, well away.
I think Dave's distribution is actually one of the more overrated aspects of his game. He has a good long pass off the floor when under no pressure but his kicking out of his hands isn't the best, his left foot is poor and too often rolling balls back to him are mishit too flat. He's good with his feet but is nowhere near van der Sar's level. Having Valdes is certainly a step up in that regard.

I'd be a bit worried about Valdes from corners and free-kicks out wide but other than that I'd be happy with him for a season or 2. His shot stopping is fantastic and fitting in with how LVG likes to play he's excellent with the ball at his feet. I just think we'd have to accept that he's going to make a couple of errors in a season like most keepers who aren't De Gea make.
Would personally still like to see us make a serious play for Cech though if Dave is to leave. I also think Sam Johnstone has potential and I'd like to see him as one of our 3 keepers next season if De Gea stays or goes.

What about Joel Pereira? I haven't seen much of him, but if we're talking about a third choice keeper, I think he's worth a shot. Provided that Lindegaard, Amos and Johnstone leave. Cech, Valdes and Pereira doesn't sound too bad.

If we have a settle back for next season that will help significatly in covering the loss of a keeper like DDG
