Man United pull out of 2015 Milk Cup tournament

Manchester United have pulled out of the 2015 Milk Cup tournament, putting an end to a 25-year association with the youth tournament in Northern Ireland.
Over the years, Man United have had some great success at the Milk Cup tournament and followers of the academy look forward to the annual tournament which takes place before the season gets underway.
It’s an extremely surprising announcement and one which has been met by disappointment from those who were looking forward to it.
An official statement from Man United stated that the reason behind the decision to pull out of the tournament was based on a detailed assessment of how it would affect pre-season plans with the first-team and U21s
It’s an interesting statement from United because participation in the Milk Cup tournament should in no way affect the U21s and first-team pre-season plans unless Louis van Gaal intends to bring lots of youngsters with him on the tour of USA, meaning there simply aren’t enough players for the Milk Cup.
Hopefully, United’s absence from the tournament this summer is only temporary because it is a great opportunity for the younger players to get a taste of knock-out football.
