Finally my dream came true! I don't understand all the crocodile tears from some of the members. The guy was SHIT. Everyone said that he was SHIT. And now, I read how he was maltreated by the club. RUBBISH! He should have been sacked in December, that would have given us a better chance of finishing in the top 4. OK, the FA cup was a bonus, but it's not enough.
Please... Be honest. I'm ecstatic that he's gone... You should be.

I'm glad you're excited about a manager losing his job, however as fans, I think we should try to look at the situation as objective as possible and try not to let your feelings cloud your judgement to make tasteless comments like "he was shit". Nobody is denying things didn't work out between him and United and yes, he probably should have been fired as early as December, but at the end of the day he is still one of the most successful managers and he was the right man for the job when he was appointed. I truly believe that if Mourinho wasn't available now, he would have seen his contract out. Also, not finishing top 4 is not only one man's fault - there were a number of players who should have performed better, but it is always the manager's head on the line. And lastly, with his departure United go back to the uncertainty of the next manager's reign and what that would mean to the club, as well as firing two managers in three years puts us closer to the dreaded 'sacking club'status.

If you believe his playing style was OK, then you must have been watching a different team last season. When I say "shit" I mean how he made the team play. I know that LVG has a great record, BUT his game is not for us. I don't know whether Jose will deliver or not (if he is to be appointed), but nobody can do a better job of delivery boring football than LVG. I am glad he was sacked. I have been saying this since last December. Not once have I changed my attitude. We all want what's best for the club (results AND performance). Let's hope the future will prove LVG's sacking to be the correct decision.

Yes am very happy for the bold decision to sack him even if the next coach cannot leave to the expectation, LVG is not a good coach for a club like united. Imagine read this:
Ahead of his departure, stories illustrating the depth of the discord between the Dutchman in his squad have emerged. The Independent report his heavy handed approach was immediately felt during the club's pre-season campaign in 2014 – the manager's first summer in charge at the club. Van Gaal was angered by the arrangements for the club's tour of the United States, made by his predecessor David Moyes, and made sweeping changes. His new regime left the squad "shattered and ill-prepared for the start of the new 2014-15 season", which would go onto be United's worst start to a season in 25 years.
Van Gaal would also routinely "crucify" his players in front of each other in team meetings, something that prompted captain Wayne Rooney and Michael Carrick – the club's two most senior players – to approach the manager and advise him to take a softer approach.
Van Gaal took the advice on board and rather than directly confronting players, would instead send lengthy emails with notes and video clips attached. Fearing the emails would contain nothing more than a list of criticisms, however, many players avoided opening the emails altogether, prompting van Gaal to use tracking technology to monitor when and for how long his emails were opened.
To battle that, the report claims players would then simply open the emails on their mobile phones, but not read their content.
Van Gaal's on-field instructions also served to add further strain on his relationship with his players. The Guardian note players had been instructed not to take on first-time shots coming into the penalty area, but to instead take a touch first. The United squad felt such an instruction inhibited their play, and, over time, began to ignore the order, feeling they were no longer allowed to think for themselves.
Van Gaal has also been accused of allowing Germany midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger preferential treatment. The 31-year-old signed for the club from Bayern Munich during the summer transfer window but has started just 13 league games this season, with injuries sidelining him for most of 2016.
The World Cup-winning midfielder has failed to live up to up to last summers' expectation and was allowed to frequently return home to Germany during his spells on the sidelines, flying in and out for matches, something that irked his teammates. As a coach, u stop players playing shot insider penalty box, not friendly with players, infact Go LVG

I was just pointing out that it's disrespectful to a man, who I truly believe gave it his best, to call him shit, that's all. Of course his style of play did not suit United, but then again - how many managers in the world can achieve the attacking football and the results that sir Alex Ferguson was producing week in and week out?
Everyone (apart from edwood) wanted Van Gaal to be sacked at the end of the season, and now that it's a fact there's no reason to get all nasty about it - he came, he did his best, it didn't work - too bad. In 10 years time nobody would remember our performances under him - but we will still have the FA Cup.

I ended up putting down (on the season review thread) that he should go, but I wouldn't have been bothered if he'd have stayed for the final season. With a full squad and a few additions I think he would have been challenging for the title. As soon as he lost out on top 4 spot, that was it. Glazers have set the bar there and that's that.
