I can get that Brendan, do you watch Mrs Brown? I think that can be similarly crude and didn't they do a film as well.

I just don't like the majority of american comedy shows, the idea of being downright silly to be funny doesn't appeal to me. any brit comedies you can recommend? I don't mind movies or comedy series. Mind your language was really good. Firstly, I am not British, but as far as Brit comedy movies go , you can't beat anything created by Guy Ritchie like Lock Stock or Snatch. There just isn't anymore good comedy about or else it's a case of that I have become too old and cynical. Hackney's Finest is a good show though.

Yeah, I love Mrs Brown because I can relate to it just like Father Ted, but the true funny comedy show/movie is dead nowadays. Might be just me along with my age and midlife crisis?

That's it you can relate to it, just a generation thing I think. I agree it's pretty much dead, though it's pretty tough to make a 90min/2hr film that has laughs all the way through and keeps interest. Series are much better, short episodes full of gags with short storylines.

Didn't like the first one so I won't bother watching the 2nd. I used to watch a lot of Family Guy but got bored of it. Although I'm still pretty sure it will get a laugh out of me if I watch it now, don't think I cracked a smile at the first Ted.
I like some of the childish American comedy as well like This is the end but Ted just didn't do it for me.

Mrs Browns Boys is utter wank. Boring old fashioned comedy for me. If you're going for something British and different you can't get much better than Peep show as far as series go.
In terms of British comedy movies Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz are right up there with the likes of Snatch and Lock Stock.

It must be a generation thing, as I still find Mrs Brown , Father Ted funny as I do with Fawlty Towers, Only Fools etc. Shaun Of The Dead and Hot Fuzz are funny shows, but the actual belly-laugh comedy is gone. All we are left with is spoof jobs that are not entertaining or funny in the slightest.

It's definitely a generational thing in most cases. I still get genuine belly laughs from a lot of shows and some movies including some of the old fashioned comedy, Only fools is and will always be funny to me.
Britain doesn't really do comedy movies, not anymore anyway, we're more for standup comedy and panel shows .etc. something which we seem to do particularly well.

If you like those you'll be amazed at how good some of the others are. David Walliams wouldn't even get into my top 100. Dara's a great comedian though but he's Irish not British!

Agreed that Dara is a funny bloke and is un-mistakenly Irish. I also like Lee Evans who always makes be laugh, the ultimate comedians has to be the Scots though, I don't know what it is, but Billy Connolly and Kevin Bridges always make me chuckle along with that N.Irish fella Patrick Kielty.

I like Kevin Bridges. Billy Connolly can be funny but again falls into the generational trap in that older people tend to find him funnier than people my age. I never used to like Lee Evans but the last time I watched him I nearly pissed myself laughing.
Lee Mack is my favourite at the moment. Jimmy Carr is still great but after you've watched him live about 5 times you start to want a change. Other great ones are Omid Djalili, Sean Lock, Jason Manford is very funny and easy to relate to (even if he is a City fan), Jon Richardson also falls into that category.

Seen him on Live at the Apollo a few times, don't think he's funny but again it's another thing about comedy in terms of what you can relate to. It's not a coincidence that 3 of my faves are Lee Mack, Jason Manford and Jon Richardson who are all from the North-west.

I love Hugh Dennis when he's on mock the week etc. he is just so calm and laid back but comes out with some great lines.
