www.skysports.com/football/news/11667/11270811/manchester-uniteds-scott-mctominay-to-be-big-player-says-nemanja-maticMatic glowing about him too: “He is 21 and to play like that [against Chelsea] and control the game like that is impressive. He will be a big player for Manchester United. "I like him because he is a very nice guy and he doesn't have a problem to ask something before the game. I am always there to help him. "When I came to Manchester, I saw within a few days he would become a top player. "He is working very hard, but I don't want to say too many things about him because he is still very young. "But he deserves all the good things."

Mourinho’s presser:
SCOTLAND OR ENGLAND FOR MCTOMINAY? “My advice to him is not about national teams - it's not about that. My advice to him is to keep the way he is - very humble, very open to learn, intelligent and keep going in the same direction and the same profile, trying to fight to have minutes with Manchester United which is not easy. Then the national team will just be a consequence of his work at the club. But I can't confirm at all that both national teams [England and Scotland] have contacted him because I don't know.”
SCOTT IS STAYING GROUNDED “I think the people around him are the right people. I have never met them but I have to believe that the kid with his attitude towards the others and towards football, the parents must be really good people that pass to him the right values. The kid is keeping his feet on the ground and is very calm. I think he passed some important tests - not from the football point of view but more from the mental point of view, with his maturity, calm, playing against the champions and knockout football in the Champions League. Two tests by the mental approach. So, I think there is a long way to go, obviously, but his feet are very much on the ground, very stable and I just hope he can keep the same direction.”

another solid display, makes me think we don't need to sign a Carrick replacement. Keeps improving and is learning quick. One day and if the managers instructions allow it, I think he is capable of passing the ball forward more often as well.

Aye, for a player with very little football experience he is mature beyond his years. I still think we’ll add to our midfield but if he keeps playing the way he is and improving then whoever comes in will have a job getting into the team. Congrats

Another midfielder is coming in surely imo. Needed a CM and a DM anyway. He takes the squad place of Carrick as DM and we hopefully add a more creative CM of the caliber of Verratti, Kroos, Niguez etc.

JOSE NAMES HIS OWN PLAYER OF THE YEAR
Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho took his moment on stage at the annual Awards dinner to announce his own Player of the Year.
"The meaning is important," Jose said of his award. "I think the dream of every boy that arrives at the club is to play for the first team. When the dream becomes true, the next dream is to play in big matches and to play in the Champions League and eventually to play for the national team.
"This player gives everything, in five or six months, so my Player of the Year has to be Scott McTominay."
"I was doubting between him and Matic, to be honest.
"Matic told me last year: 'I want to play for you. I want to play for Manchester United and I'm going to do it'. He made it happen and, this season, he has been very consistent for the balance of the team. Playing, I think, every match.
"I was going for him but, when I understood, in the two awards for the young players, Scott was not getting one, I decided to change as it's not acceptable. He is the one that did everything. He started the season in the Academy and ends the season playing in big matches, in Premier League derbies and Champions League matches, while becoming an important player for the squad.
"So I thought this kid cannot go home without an award, so he's going to get my award."

strange award as only Blind, Darmian and Carrick have played less minutes. I agree he deserves a"best young player" award for his first season.

Got a good way to go for me, like to see him loaned out at a decent club getting good game time. Solid enough squad player if he keeps his development up, not sure there's any more there tho.

Seems like a genuine lad but I don't know if he really has what it takes. Lots of fans claiming that our others youngsters coming through are miles above McT (Garner & Levitt).
Maybe this (also) has Fergies hand on it
We have secured our academy asset - I agree with Ed that he needs to be loaned out to get more game time .................. and if the worst comes to the worst we can sell him to José at his next club
