Aaaand back to the topic - keep or sell?
On one hand, he's only 24, definitely has the potential, partnered up well with Smalling at some point, not afraid to put his foot and head in and finally - is British.
On the other - he's broken all the time, would not sell for much, could interfere with kids' chances in the first team, not consistent, injured, injured, injured.

Buy a top CB this window to accompany Mike and let him fight for it next season, assess after that, he's still young yet but if he doesn't / can't alter his playing style and use his brain more then he's fucked.

Was horrible last few U21 outings but I'd give him a final season to prove. In any case a new CB has to arrive.

When we signed him 5 years ago I really thought we'd signed our future captain and the future captain of England. He had everything you'd want from a top class central defender in terms of his physical attributes. The only thing lacking was a little bit of common sense and calmness in his play which I was certain would come with age.
Fast forward 5 years and Jones is still that over exuberant, mistake prone central defender we signed 5 years ago. If anything he appears to be worse than he was when we first brought him in. Maybe that has been down to injuries but even his injury record is a result of the reckless way he plays.
I'd like to think he could still come good yet as at 24 he's still young for a central defender but I no longer have any confidence that he'll go on to become that great defender we all thought he'd be. He's stagnated here and if I'm being completely honest I think it's time he was moved on. We need a defender who we can rely on.

I have grown fond of the Smalling - Blind duo, but if another manager is to come next year I'm not sure he'll feel the same way about them. Then you have all the media claiming that Jones is a Mourinho type of player (I honestly don't see the resemblance with Terry) makes me wonder if by any chance he stays fit for more than a month he might have something to add to the team.

Shaw has had more first team selections than Jones this year I think Jones has had (more than) enough time - unfortunately his contract runs until June 2019 :o We bought him for £16.5 mil in 2011 - not even sure we would get that back at this point if we moved him on So I'm guessing he will stay

If he can stay fit I think Mourinho could work wonders on him but it's a big if.

I don't think he is ever going to stay fit for more than 2 weeks, we cant even have him as a squad player, spends more time injured than fit.
We need to have one top class CB, so I would let Jones go.

Jones : had potential, has been careless, has been injured most of the time. I'd keep him for now, and give him one last season because he's still only 24 and that's precisely when Smalling clicked all of a sudden and became a beast. But I would buy an experienced quality CB nonetheless to form a solid core with Smalling and Blind. It will also be easier to give youngsters a fair chance once we have established that core (McNair, TFM?)
One last season for him, we have not much to lose, have we? As long as it doesn't prevent us from investing in an experienced CB I am ok with him staying.

I see people throwing themselves off cliffs over it, which is funny. Let's face it, you can spin this any way you want, positive or negative, but if he is prepared to be a squad player sliding down the pecking order on the way out of the door at some point down the line, then it's a good deal because we get some money. And on his day, with a good run of games behind him, he's a solid defender. Main concern is obviously how much a 'bed-blocker' to the youth is he going to be. 'Koulibaly' / Lindelof / Bailly would be your main three. Smalling next, then jones. Where do you fit Axel etc in? You would also imagine Rojo is out the door in the Summer.
